Edison Park, named for Thomas Alva Edison, is the most northwestern of all of Chicago's 77 neighborhoods. City workers and professionals comprise the bulk of the population. Edison Park has a lot of first-, second- and third-generation ethnic groups -- Polish, Irish, Italian, Greek and Germans, and it may have the largest population of Irish residents in the city. There's nothing pretentious or stuffy about Edison Park. Residents are hard-working, family-oriented and community-minded. People move to Edison Park and stay for generations. Many who move away return to raise their families because of the neighborhood's stable and safe reputation.
